Johanna

Johanna Berger is in her 30s, mother to 16-year old Meike and married to her former study buddy Tom. She is keeping an online diary – on her blog.

20 years ago, her mother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia paranoid schizophrenia, a severe persecution mania. Until today, Johanna cannot forget how her mother lost control over her life back then. How her parents’ marriage slowly crumbled due to the disease and how her mother committed suicide in a locked psych ward. Ever since then, Johanna has tried to prove to herself and everybody else – at school and with her management studies – that she will never end up like her mother. The fear of exactly that, however, cuts deep. The shock is immense when Johanna discovers that she is changing.

Finally, she has secured a promising job at Protecta Society in Stuttgart, including a company car and mobile phone. Finally, the long-distance relationship with Tom is no longer necessary. Tom had moved from Berlin to Stuttgart for work years ago. Even though Johanna and Meike have a hard time getting used to life in Swabia, the family is happy to be together again. However, Johanna is not the same: at first, it is only the little things, like drinking her tea with sugar, wearing a winter coat in the summer. But something inside her is changing…
